Expose FI brings together a hospital board veteran, a practicing physician, two attorneys who fight for their clients, and the technology team that built the platform, around one question: who is checking what employers pay for prescription drugs?
Why we came together
Expose FI exists because prescription drugs cost too much, and almost no one checks the price. Four Kansas City partners came to that problem from different directions.
Jonathan Buschmann and Erik Klinkenborg have each spent more than twenty years as attorneys standing up for people. Their clients are patients and injured people up against big systems: insurers, companies and the organizations that pay for care. Again and again, they saw that the people paying the bills rarely had the evidence to know whether the bills were fair.
Jim Hake saw it from the other side of the table. A CPA turned CEO and dealmaker, he spent his career reading the numbers behind businesses, and he served on the board of North Kansas City Hospital. Then the system became personal. Managing his own health and prescriptions, he saw what drug prices mean for a patient, not just a balance sheet.
Dr. Kelvin Walls sees it in the exam room. In more than 30 years as an ear, nose and throat surgeon, he has cared for patients of every age and seen what their prescriptions cost them.
They came together around one question: who is checking what employers pay for prescription drugs? The answer was almost no one. Employers fund the benefit, but the pharmacy benefit manager reports the numbers.
So they built Expose FI. The 531 Digital team, a Kansas City healthcare technology firm, designed and built the platform to check every claim against a public federal benchmark. Gharib Gharibi partners with them on back-end hosting and security. Together, they give employers the facts on what their plan pays, so the people who fund the benefit, and the people who depend on it, are treated fairly.
Every claim is care someone needed. The plan that paid for it deserves to know what it really cost.
